So, my wife had a glass of Diet Dr. Pepper on the counter last night, and it did something weird. The glass is thick, and as far as we know, it had NO imperfections or cracks. It was used as part of a set on a regular basis. The bottom has a slight upward concave, so when it is set in liquid, or develops condensation, it forms a weak suction under the glass. It is so weak, it is only faintly noticeable.

Well… Last night Sarah picked her glass up from the bar, and I heard her gasp. I looked over to find Diet Dr. Pepper all over the sofa, and her holding the hollow remains of her glass. Apparently, the suction was strong enough, while the glass weak enough, to rip it in half (actually into about a 1/3 vs. 2/3 chunk). I’m not completely clear as to how it happened, but it was very odd, and a bit interesting.

Here are 2 pictures. The first is how it would normally look, and the second shows and abnormally clean break…
